They can be a bit difficult to remove some times, because they'll often free spin and not back out. A hex wrench (aka allen wrench), or phillips head screw driver are used to loosen those. ![]() They're similar to the pin style that was used on my '12. As the screw goes into the pin it opens up preventing it from pulling back out. Ignore the dirty car, I didn't see the point in washing before the mod, since I was going to wash afterward to remove any fingerprints caused by re-install.Īssuming you're referring to the fastener on the left side of that shot (near where there's some red paint visible), that is a "screw" type. Have fun, and happy modding!!!! :beerchug: The other difference is that it's not visible to be able to be rotated like the other red circles so you have to pop it out. It should pop out undamaged and be reusable. This clip isn't like the other red circles, because it can be removed by simply applying pressure like you did with the blue circles. It pops out the same way as the other 9, but it will take a little more effort. Once there you've got one more of those dang plastic clips. Here's a shot getting the first 2 loose.Īnd just keep popping them loose until you get to the front. You'll need to open your doors to do this. To remove the first 9, simply slide your trim tool between the rocker panel an body, and pop them loose. You're right I do, don't get ahead of me, I'll get back to that 10th blue circle soon. Now I know you're saying "But shots you've got 10 blue circles". ![]() Reference the previous picture with all the circles. Once you've got those pesky clips out of the way, remove the 9 snap clips that hold the panel flush to the body of the car. Obviously if you do it the easy way you have to buy new clips but you can get them at most auto part stores for a few dollars a bag (most bags have 5-10 depending on the cost of the bag). Doing it this way I removed the last 9 clips in about 1 minute. The easy way is to simply break the bottom off, remove the rocker panel and then simply turn and remove the clip with no tension on it. If you remember, I said there were 2 ways to remove them. Turning them isn't exactly easy, and I spent about 10 minutes on 1 clip. To make it easily slide in/out of the rectangular hole you need to turn it 90 degrees so it is positioned the skinny way in the hole (see pic above). When the rocker panel is installed the clip is the fat way in the hole (first clip picture). Here's a clip easily sliding in/out of the hold. They are rectangular and fit into a rectangular hole. Ignore the blue circles for the moment, we'll get back to them. I know this is a jump ahead, but it shows the clip locations. Next, remove the 5 clips that hold the bottom of the rocker panel to the car. Leave it alone, it holds the wheel well liner to the fender, and there's no reason to mess with it for this mod. you'll also see, in this shot, a 3rd pin. In this position the grip on the panel has been released and you can pull the two piece pin out off the car. In this shot I've already got the top one out, and my trim tool is between the two pieces of the pin. If you pull the inside pin back, the outside part will release it's grip on the panels. The first thing you'll need to do is remove the 4 pins in the ends (2 each end). They're cheap and reduce the risk of unintentional damage. Since there was no how-to on this I'm making one.Ī flat tip screw driver should be all you need, but I recommend a trim tool. I wanted to tie them together with some black trim visible at all angles, so I decided to paint my rocker panels. So I painted my grille and spoiler satin black.
